In his teens, his mother began sending demos to show their singing and dancing skills. Ashanti refused an athletic scholarship to Hampton University to continue singing. His big break came with his first album. Her songs “Foolish”, “What is love?” And “Always On Time” was on the Billboard Hot 100 charts during the same week. Ashanti was the first woman to accomplish this task.
